1.LETTING GO
As Caregivers we hold on to so much "emotional stuff" in order to survive the caregiver challenges we face on a daily basis.
Letting go is not a one-time event; it is a habit that requires consistent repetition to become strong. The purpose of letting go is not to erase emotions, but to acknowledge their presence and transform your relationship to them. - Yung Pablo
-The Emotional Side of Caregiving (28 min read)
-Book: "Lighter" by Yung Pueblo (6 min watch)
2.CHECKING IN
Caregivers need to check in with themselves to ensure their own needs are met so they can continue to provide care. Caregivers often prioritize the needs of the person they care for over their own, which can lead to physical and mental health issues.
Why it's important
Maintain health: Caregivers who take care of themselves can provide better care for longer.
Avoid burnout: Caregivers who don't take care of themselves may become exhausted, overwhelmed, or anxious.
Prevent chronic conditions: Caregivers who don't take care of themselves may be at greater risk for chronic health conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, and depression.
How to check in with yourself
Plan time: Set aside time for self-care in your schedule.
Be mindful: Regularly check in with yourself to see how you are doing.
Set boundaries: Set boundaries to make time for exercise, sleep, eating well, and socializing.
Journal: Journaling can help you organize your thoughts and feelings.
